PAUL MORRELL INTERVIEWS: AMBER D

Amber, you recently married former Tidy Boss Lee Haslam, how was your big
day, and did you make a conscious decision to remain "Amber D." in clubland
rather than "Amber Haslam"?

To be honest, I wanted to keep my marriage and my DJ Career separate, so I
don't see any reason really to change my DJ name now to Amber Haslam. Plus
it has taken about 7 years to build up this name, so changing it now would
be confusing to say the least!

You have also recently begun playing a more chilled-out electro sound under
the guise Amber D'Amour, how has that been going & has it opened up many
doors for you?

Yeah, I have been playing Electro / House for over 2 years now, and I also
have my own record label,
www.damourrecordings.com which is doing really
well. One of my tracks on the label (which I am singing on) was signed to
the Worlds Greatest Electro Vol 2. (out now! Lol)

What is the best club that you have ever played at?

There are far too many to mention! I would say I enjoy playing at the
festivals (as long as the weather is good!) I really enjoy playing in
Holland, and also in Canada, but one of the best clubs I have played in
would be somewhere like Turnmills or Alexandra Palace.. they were cool..

What is your favorite record of all time?

Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me.

We recently spoke to our very good friend Lisa Lashes who is a propper girly
girl at heart. She admitted bopping round the kitchen to Leona Lewis when
not boshing it out in the clubs. What do you like to listen to when doing
the hoovering?

I listen to all sorts! I come from a very musical family, so music has
always been very important to me. I grew up in the family pub, so I was
constantly listening to the juke box.. anything from the Moody Blues, to Roy
Orbison, Elvis, Queen, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Elton John to Erasure and Take
That lol. These days I still like listening to my Erasure greatest hits
album in the house!

Who was the first "Big Name Dj" you played with, and how was that gig?

I cant honestly remember now.. it was that long ago! Probably someone like
the Tidy Boys or someone... although I did go back to back with Frankie
Dettori, the Horse Jockey in Ibiza one summer lol.

Who is your musical hero?

I love how Queen broke all the boundaries of how popular was deemed to be.
Also Pink Floyd. David Bowie was also very much before his time.

Whos poster did you have pinned on your bedroom wall when you were a wee
tidy girl?

Hahahaha... oh my god. Flash back... it was Leonardo Dicaprio

What are you looking forward to most about playing in Coventry for
Classique?

Its somewhere where I have not played before, so I cannot wait! Coventry is
a great place, and I am sure we'll have a wicked night!

and finally.....

Which DJ would you most like to meet, that you have as of yet have not?

I have seen Grandmaster Flash play, but not yet had the privilege to meet
him... or maybe Todd Terry.

Many thanks for your time. x
Paul Morrell
